Great for making quick drinks or cocktails, simple syrup is one of those food items you’ll always want on hand. Quick and easy-to-assemble, the mixture stores indefinitely in the refrigerator, and makes entertaining guests all the more, well…simple.
(to make: take equal parts water and sugar and combine them in a saucepan on the stove))
(heat water/sugar mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved, careful not to boil)
(remove from heat and store in a glass container in the refrigerator. here, my mixture appears darker on account that i used organic, evaporated cane juice sugar, not refined)
(add more! if you want to bring some extra flavor to your mixture, experiment with infusing your syrup with different herbs and flower essences. simply fill a cloth tea bag with 1-2 teaspoons of dried herbs or flowers, and steep the bag in the heated syrup for 2-3 minutes. i've used dried lavender in the past to make a lavender-lemonade spritzer and the sugar really helped to bring out the flower essence quite perfectly.)
